New Goblets

After watch a video on the Clay Club blog of Cynthia Bringle making goblets I was inspired. I had planned to throw goblets anyway so why not? Here are some of the styles I tried. I'm not really sure I love any of them but I do like the technique.

  1. I kind of like them. They're very chalice-like.

    1. Thanks, they seem a bit chunky to me, but they would be fine water goblets. Do you like any one better than the others?

  2. I like the one on the far right the best.

  3. far right is a great shape- just work on the stem a bit and you have a winner!

    1. Thanks Meredith, I made a couple more that are very similar to this with better stems. I fluted the stems also which I think will give a nice grip. I'll try to remember to post pictures after they are glazed and fired.

  4. the guy I apprenticed to took the dried cup part, trimmed it then spun a fresh blob on the bottom to make the lower half, but I like to just make 2 pieces and then attach them :)

    1. I've never tried that method Gary. I might just do that. I used to make them in 2 pieces but I really like doing them all at once better. It's silly because if one part cracks the entire piece is lost but it just has a better sense of continuity when thrown together. (IMHO)
