Ground Breaking

Reuse, recycle, reduce. We hear these ideas all the time and I tend to think they are good ones. It comes in especially great when someone gives me an old kiln.  That is exactly what happened when the electric kiln that we used for cone 6 glaze firing gave up the ghost at Callanwolde. It’s a good size kiln, much bigger than my electric kiln but I’m not interested in rewiring this one. You may remember I did that with my electric kiln when I installed the kiln sitter (you can read about that here) which I got from another free kiln.

My plan for this kiln is to make it a reduction kiln since that is the look I like best for my pots. I am even considering adding a stoke hole so I can feed some small piece of wood into the kiln for some ash and wood effects.

Before I can start converting it into a gas kiln I need to build a kiln shed. My current kiln room is fine for the electric kiln but it’s too crowded to add flame to the mix. I’m designing a simple lean-to type shed that will have a m…

First T-shirt Design

This past Saturday was the East Atlanta Strut.  It's a very fun show right in my neighborhood.  It's very nice to be able to set up the booth only one mile from the house.  It's well attended and always a lot of fun.  And because it's in East Atlanta Village it has lots of quirky things and people to see.  It seemed like a great show to debut my very first t-shirt design.

Okay, technically it's not the very first, my pottery class in high school made a "Get High on Pottery" shirt.  I'm not certain what happened to that shirt but I can only guess that I wore it until it was too thin to wear anymore.

The new design is something I've been thinking about doing for a long time and finally just got around to making it.  Sometimes you need to do that, just do it.  I think it came out well.

I ordered it through Zazzle because I was only ordering two shirts.  So many people at the Strut liked it so much that I might consider getting an order together for a local screen printer to make up for me.  Of course I have to say, Zazzle did a great job.  The order came on time and the printing seems to be great.  I'd recommend them for sure.

I have a couple more design ideas in my head, maybe I should get them onto shirts.  What do you think?
