Thanks

A few days ago I read this blog post on saying "Thank You," then yesterday I read a facebook post that reminded readers how important is is to show compassion to others including strangers.  It's really easy to say "thank you" to a customer that purchases one of my pots or someone who comes into the booth and complements my work even if they don't buy something.  I usually send a thank you note with packages that I ship to customers and I always try to show appreciation to the gallery and store owners who sell my pottery for me.  But I rarely get a chance to say "thanks" to the people who make purchases through these galleries and stores or the person that wins a donated piece in a silent auction for charity.  Sometimes someone will walk into my booth and tell me they own something I made that they picked up at one of these places but that doen't happen often enough that I know I'm thanking everyone.

I could not survive as an artist without the customers who support me by purchasing the pots that I make.  I'm making them for myself and for the recipient and I often try to imagine who this person might be.  Sometimes I'm very surprised like when a 9 year old boy bought a shot cup.  He didn't have a drinking problem, he needed something to use to soak the reed for his musical instrument.  The fact that this young man would want to spend his money on handmade pottery to do that impressed me and changed my thoughts about who's buying my shot cups.  I thank him for the purchase and for changing my thinking.

I'd like to thank all of the people who have and will purchase my pottery.  I could not do this without you.

While I'm expressing thanks, let my not forget my readers.  Thanks for reading, thanks for commenting and thanks for telling me that you do read my blog.  It's so often a surprise, because I can forget that it's not just the commenters who are reading.  Just like my pots, I create this blog for you all and for me but it wouldn't exist without you.

  1. What a great post! One of the things I enjoy most about the silent auction we run at church (that you donated to a couple of years ago... Thank you!!!) is hearing stories from the people who donate and the people who buy the items. And there is nothing better than seeing an item made with love go to a person who loves it just as much! Keep up the great work Lori!

  4. What a wonderful reminder of the connection between artist and "patrons" or however to say "those who enjoy their lives using our wares!"
