Live & Learn

This weekend I showed in the Artisans @ the Etz event.   I was very excited about this event; they invited me to show, they were very well organized and efficient, they told me about the pre-show advertising that they would be doing and how this event had been run successfully for 3 years.  It's a fundraiser for the synagogue which also seemed like a good cause that people besides myself would be happy to support.
Sadly, the show was a complete wash; not just for me but for all of the other artists that I watched or spoke to about it.  A painter & I started discussing the fact that we had both been invited, she questioned how the organizers had found her and selected her to participate.  As I was packing up and leaving I heard several other artists asking the same question.  I may be wrong but I suspect it was the first time any of us participated in the event, I'm confident it is the last time I will participate in the event.  I find it really sad that so many of the artists there had never been in this type of show before and it was quite a bad experience for them.
The lesson I have learned is to ask more questions, like how many artists in the show are returning artists.  Live and learn.

VIII of Pentacles

My Friend Gary has been creating his own tarot card images and Haikus.    I was the model for the VIII of Pentacles.  I think the image came out really well, the tree in the meadow with the city scape in the background reminds me of Piedmont Park in Atlanta, GA (where I live) so the card gives me the feeling of being at home doing what I love to do on a warm, sunny day.

Raku Firing

I did a raku firing with some friends at Mudfire. It was the first raku firing for several of the participants but it went pretty well for everybody. It's so great to hear all people saying "ooohhh", "aahh" and "wow" so often in an afternoon.

Busy Season

I love the energy of this time of year.  It seems while the trees are putting on a show in preparation for the winter we potters are preparing for winter shows.  At so many instances in life I tend to have a hard time figuring out whether I have too much stuff or not enough.  I go grocery shopping to refill the pantry and the refrigerator only to struggle to find places for my purchase.  This causes me to think "I've got to learn to cook so I can do something with this food."  Now I'm having similar thoughts about pots...not that I feel I need to learn to make them but I wonder if I have enough to do well at the show I have coming up and I simultaneously wonder if I have too many; I don't want the display to look too crowded.
These are not bad problems to have, some people don't have enough of anything except hardship.  Thankfully, this is also the time of year when people tend to be more conscious of giving to the needy.  I hope that as we give this year we are able to provide abondance for someone who has gone without.
Thanks
