Nicest Customers

So often we see artists posting about less than pleasant customer interactions.  It's usually done with a tongue in cheek attitude about someone that was met at an art festival or some other venue like that.  I have to admit that I've had interactions with those types of people also and knowing I'm not alone makes it easier to laugh them off.  They don't really understand that they aren't just questioning or commenting an item, they are also talking about the artist, provided the artist actually puts a little piece of themselves into the work.  I imagine all or most of us do.

Recently I had an interaction with a customer that was just the opposite.  She found one of my covered jars on my Etsy store and inquired about it as an urn for her dog who had recently passed away.  In discussions about the piece and her dog I realized how much love she felt for this animal.  I have four dogs, I understand this bond.

She received this piece yesterday and wrote me the nicest email.  People like this will really make your day.  I know I brightened her world and she mine just by the commonality of this piece of pottery.  I'm so sorry that she lost her dog but I'm glad I could help comfort her by providing a resting place.

  1. this must be nice customer day... I just received an e-mail from a past etsy customer who broke what she bought from me and was very sad. She asked if I could make her another since she loved it so much.

  3. I had a customer email photos of her standing next to two of my pieces, so nice to get those emails. I guess I have the fun festival comments to look forward to on Sunday, oh boy!

    1. Yes Tracey, it is nice to get those emails, it's so thoughtful of the customer. My last show was really nice for several reasons, one being I wasn't troubled with any of those customers, everyone was friendly, asked intelligent questions and didn't ask me to change my price. I wish you the same and beautiful weather. Best of luck.

  4. I find most people who buy pots are good folks who understand why we do this. There is the once in awhile person, who is not really your customer, who will get under your skin.
The goods ones are customers for years.
    Great story and wonderful jar.
